20-04-08 - Kangas Win The Treble!
While it may be a bit of a misleading title, Kangas did indeed win all three grades today. Taking out the points in Colts, Reserves, and League in what truly is the closest possible margin in football - 0 points.
The decision by Mines Rovers to not attend their scheduled game against Kangas today has resulted in a forfeit in all three grades as each Kangas team suited up, strapped up and ran out onto the ground with no opponents.
In each case, the team and umpires stood around for about 15 mins before declaring a non-event and leaving the ground.
A scratch match was organised between Kangas league team and a combined reserves/colts line-up on what must have been an especially disappointing day for one Scotty Haythornthwaite, who has racked up his 100th league game for Kangas in a forfeit.
Kalgoorlie City Football Club is very disappointed with Mines Rovers decision to not attend their scheduled fixture, and is committed to helping Scotty celebrate his milestone in style during next weeks away clash with Kambalda.
Celebrations for Kangas annual Jeff 'Buddha' Usher Memorial Day were also adversely affected by the days events, with turn-out and celebrations especially subdued.
Below is a report from the Kalgoorlie Miner, filmed during todays scratch match in what the local newspaper is calling a 'Football Farce'.
