07-05-08 - 150 Years of Aussie Rules!
This weekend marks 150 years of Australians playing Aussie Rules footy. As part of the celebrations for this milestone, no AFL matches have been scheduled for this day, and the AFL is encouraging all footy fans to get down and support their local teams. As your local team, KangasFC would love to see as many people as possible down at the local derby this Saturday as the mighty 'Roos take on those pussy Panthers down the road!
As part of the celebrations of 150 years of Aussie Rules, Kangas have prepared our own little historical presentation on the history of this great club, marked by the debut of a professionally shot video of Cobber Rogers on the writing of our club song in 1984, along with the premiership won in that same year. We also have a brief interview filmed with Gerry Cotter, who was our captain that year. The club has also acquired video footage of this grand final, and is hopeful that we can screen a highlights package from the game also.
A brief presentation from Cobber Rogers will follow the video screening, detailing the history of Kangas from our inception in the late 1800's, right through to today.
Special thanks to Gary Brown for the filming and editing of the interviews with Cobber and Gerry. Another thank you goes out to Cobber and Gerry for agreeing to take part.
For those of you unable to make this special event, the highlights package and video interviews, along with pictures from the night, will be available on KangasFC.com in the days following the event.
